Welcome to Wheresville guitar & bass. My name is Mark. I have been giving guitar lessons since 1976 when my high school guidance counsellor asked me to teach a "free" class that ended up being dubbed "guitar float" at East Henderson High School in East Flat Rock NC.

I was 17 at the time and it was cool teaching some of my classmates some chords, songs and getting to bring my Zeppelin, Beatles, Rush & Kansas albums to school to spin as a part of the "curriculum".

My journey began by taking lessons from Herb Howell when I was 11 years old in Augusta GA, after being captivated by my father's Glen Campbell, Jerry Reed & Roy Clark records. Herb went on to play with the Guy Lombardo orchestra. I learned more from Herb than anyone. He taught me the value of the basics and a solid foundation.

I have been around some GREAT guitar players through the years, some well known and some quite obscure. But I always pay attention and am able to learn "something" from nearly every player I have been around, even if what NOT to do. I was lucky enough to assist engineer Chuck Allen on some of the "Steve Morse Band's" first US Tour in 1983, picking up some cool tips from Steve. In 1993 I attended a recording workshop with Gary Pihl, guitarist for Boston (formerly Sammy Hagar) and the following year another recording class with Norbert Putnam, who played bass for Elvis, Dan Fogelberg and many more. In 1996 attended a guitar workshop/clinic hosted by John Petrucci of Dream Theater. I dig all the jazz greats  as well from Abercrombie to Methany and have been incorporating more jazz influences in my live performances. Check out the site and shoot me an email if you want to discuss lessons. We can do a "trial" lesson just to see where you are at and go from there, no strings attached. Thanks for stopping by, keep playing and always make playing fun!!
